Chief Technology Officer

Enabling life sciences companies to be future-ready

A futurist and innovator at heart, Tarun has over two decades of experience in delivering digital transformation solutions to the life sciences industry. Tarun’s vision and commitment inspire everyone at Indegene to break new ground and scale new frontiers, especially when it comes to experimenting with modern technologies to solve complex business problems in the life sciences industry - and demonstrate real, measurable business outcomes.

AI Advocate

He is committed to helping the life sciences industry realize the promise of what AI can do (responsibly of course), across the pharmaceutical life cycle - spanning innovation across the entire life sciences value chain - from clinical research and drug development through commercial marketing and post-market surveillance. Along with his team, Tarun uses applied machine learning, natural language processing, machine vision, and other enterprise-ready systems that can be contextualized to have a real-world impact on Indegene’s client's businesses and on patients' well-being. Before Indegene, Tarun served as Director of Technology for Medsn.

Customer experience as the driver, technology as the vehicle

Tarun has always emphasized the approach of creating a great customer experience driving the technology, rather than the reverse. As an example, he works closely with clients to blend the domain knowledge of Indegene as well as clients into the technical aspects of a business solution seamlessly. This has resulted in global, production-scale solutions in less time, and in a highly cost-effective way. He brings first-hand knowledge of working with pharma companies to explore and educate about the art of possible where ‘transformed’ customer experiences can be realized with state-of-the-art technology in a secure, compliant way and customized to reflect the character and nuances of the client organization.

Technology leader with a business mindset

He encourages technology practitioners to focus more on the design, processes, and code in a way that’s tightly aligned with the business and user outcomes, rather than just showcasing technology or “over-engineering” the solutions.

Coder for life

Tarun makes a conscious effort to remain technically proficient, writing and reviewing code every day. This has increased the credibility of the engineering team and has brought better discipline to the business, with engineers viewing him more as a peer/mentor than just a manager. Oftentimes, Tarun takes on the role of lead developer for some initiatives so that he can be immersed with all levels of developers and go through the entire project life cycle.

An insatiable quest for knowledge

Tarun truly believes in life-long learning. He carves out a minimum of 2 hours a day - every single day - thinking about R&D and reviewing the latest advancements and technology releases, and news. He makes it a point to share key takeaways with the larger leadership and technology teams - and high-yield opportunities are prioritized for deeper discussion and experimentation. The goal is to keep the team excited, knowledgeable, and current with technology as well as ensure that solutions follow the current modern approach to always stay ahead of the curve. This has helped many clients pilot and deploy custom technology services, helping them get a head-start in the market.

Emphasis on empathy and collaboration

Tarun is a big fan of a flat team structure, with everyone contributing - having a voice on all aspects of what the team needs to deliver to the business, and how they do it. He has anchored and driven cross-functional hackathons where teams with deep medical expertise and technology skillsets have closely collaborated in a war-room-like setup. These efforts have yielded great insights and led to actions that have ultimately benefited the company.
