Laflin's enthusiasm for operations and next-generation technology is evident in his conference speaking and collaborations with vendors in the design and creation of lab of the future facilities and technology. Steve has been a popular keynote speaker at both conferences and board sessions. For over 20 years, his innovative concepts have been used both internally and externally.

He worked with a diverse network and all levels of management at Lilly, including automation teams, production, IT, operations, facilities, finance, procurement, researchers, and executives. His background in operations and facilities led to new tools and technology that Lilly uses to keep employees secure. He put EHS strategic plans in place to handle vision (the purpose of EHS), strategic anchors (integrated safety, problem solutions, valued partners), and program priorities. (emergency management and business continuity planning, injury prevention and loss reduction, business process improvements, performance metrics, and communication and outreach).

Steve's broad and deep leadership and expertise have resulted in new products that are either in development or are already on the market.
