Dr. Alderete has successfully applied his wide range of experience and formal training to the evaluation, financing, formation and operation of diagnostics and medical device technology companies.

As a serial entrepreneur, John has led teams that develop and commercialize novel, high-margin medical products for significant worldwide markets. John has also used his expertise to help multi-national biotech and pharma companies with strategic planning decisions in complex diseases, new markets and new technologies. He utilized a combination of formal market research and analytical modeling methods, together with in-depth scientific and clinical understanding to bear on projects concerning pipeline prioritization, pre- and post-launch sales forecasting, opportunity assessments in existing and new indications, in- and out-licensing opportunities, and reimbursement analysis. His clients included leading multi-national pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies such as Amgen, Inc., Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Biogen, Inc., Genentech, Inc., Imclone Systems, Inc., Ortho Biotech, and Virologic, Inc (now Monogram Biosciences).

John received his B.A. in Biology from Reed College, his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in conjunction with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and his M.B.A. with distinction from the University of Texas.
Industry Focus
John has deep life sciences experience that includes basic and translational research in the areas of virology, oncology, and cell biology, program management (both scientific and product level), product development, strategic and business development, technology assessment and development, fundraising and clinical trial design, implementation and data assessment. He has experience with medical devices, diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics (with an emphasis in infectious diseases and oncology).
